Theater Services Coordinator
Sumter Opera House
&
International Lyric Coloratura Soprano

Hi, I’m Kara, an arts administrator and lyric-coloratura soprano. I am the Theater Services Coordinator at the Sumter Opera House (built in 1895). Since 2023, I’ve been assisting in season performances and helping steer our $20M+ renovation toward a Fall 2027 reopening. In practice, that’s meant acting like a development lead: launching a new 501(c)(3) with the City, guiding a rebrand, hiring and training staff, and tightening up how we work behind the scenes.
Day to day, I wear a lot of hats. I live in Spektrix, advance artists from contract to curtain, shape marketing and patron services, manage memberships and sponsorships, build donor relationships, handle finance and grants, coordinate rentals and events, and lead education outreach. If it touches the audience or the stage, I’ve probably had a hand in it.
Before moving into admin, I spent years performing across the U.S. and Europe as a coloratura soprano. Highlights include founding Opera et Cetera in central Germany, singing the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, performing many -ina roles (iykyk), a ton of concert work, and commissioning/performing BELLESONGS. I hold an M.M. from Florida State University and a B.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado.
And yes, I’m still very much an artist. I perform recitals and concert work, especially my program Celebrating Women Composers. I love performing and building welcoming, well-run arts spaces! I’m growing toward executive leadership where I can use both my stage instincts and my systems mindset.
